BOTOX® Cosmetic

When you laugh, smile, look puzzled or frown, you contract your facial muscles of animation. As you age, these movements produce permanent deep wrinkles and lines in your facial skin, especially around the forehead, eyes, around the mouth and at the lower forehead above your nose (the dreaded “11″!). These lines can make you appear sad, angry, tired and older. BOTOX® Cosmetic treatments can not only prevent you from deepening these lines during natural facial movements, they can also help reverse these visible signs of aging, leaving you with a younger, refreshed look.

What can BOTOX® treatments do for me?

BOTOX® Cosmetic is the most popular cosmetic procedure in the United States and certainly one of our most requested procedures. Safe, quick and effective, BOTOX® eliminates or reduces wrinkles and facial lines for up to three to four months with no downtime or surgery and little to no discomfort. Through a series of tiny injections, BOTOX® affords you a refreshed look by smoothing frown lines between the eyebrows, horizontal forehead lines, crow’s feet lines around the eyes, and lines around the mouth.

Restylane®

Restylane®, one of the first non-collagen fillers, is utilized to smooth wrinkles, shape lips and sculpt facial contours. It is a clear, synthetic gel composed of hyaluronic acid, a natural substance that is found in your skin as well as other areas throughout your body. It carries little risk of allergic reaction. Restylane is used to treat the nasolabial folds (from the root of the nose to the angle of your mouth) as well as the glabellar lines (between the eyebrows). With its unique ability to bind with water, Restylane remains in your skin for typically five to six months, although individual results may vary

Juvéderm® Injectable Gel

Juvéderm®, like Restylane®, is an injectable gel that gently reverses many of the signs of facial aging, such as wrinkles, crow’s feet, fine lines, thinning lips and loosening skin. By adding volume, it will sculpt the cheeks, “plump up” the lips, and restore a youthful oval shape to the face. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is highly biocompatible and non-animal-based, no pre-treatment skin testing is needed. Juvéderm® is supplied in three formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated. Results last about nine to twelve months.

Radiesse®

Radiesse® is a synthetic injectable filler that reduces wrinkles, creases and scars by augmenting the body’s natural collagen supply. Composed of microspheres in a biocompatible gel, Radiesse is made from the same minerals found in our bones, so it carries little risk of allergic reaction. Over time, the gel is absorbed by the body, and new collagen is deposited in its place. Radiesse can be used on many areas of the face, including the nasolabial folds, peri-oral lines, depressed scars and oral commissures.

Treatments typically take 15 minutes and require only local anesthetic. Side effects such as bruising or swelling are minimal and should fade within a few days, although occasionally may take a little longer. Results are visible immediately after the injection and can last for up to one to two years, although the procedure can be repeated as often as you wish.

Sculptra® Aesthetic

Sculptra® is a different sort of filler. Unlike Restylane, Juvederm and Radiesse, what you are injecting is essentially the filler itself, Sculptra is best thought of as a catalyst. In other words, what you are injecting is not the actual “plumping” material. Rather, Sculptra acts by stimulating the facial tissues to gradually create and lay down extra collagen, which is the bodies natural filler. The improvement occurs gradually over about five months, not right away, permitting you to make a slow and steady change, not an overnight metamorphosis. Sculptra was originally developed and got its initial FDA clearance for treating facial atrophy caused by the antiviral agents that those stricken with HIV suffer. These patients sustain significant degrees of facial atrophy and Sculptra has done a remarkable job at correcting this.

BOTOX® | Restylane® | Radiesse® | Long Island | Suffolk County Sculptra also lasts longer than the other temporary fillers discussed above. The clinical studies demonstrate lasting effects exceeding 24 months, more than double some of the other fillers. Furthermore, Sculptra is used to treat the signs of facial atrophy is a more global sense. Unlike the other fillers that are used to treat, maybe a deepened nasolabial fold (smile lines), Sculptra is injected in higher volumes initially, so that the smile lines, marionette lines, cheeks, and temples may often be corrected together. This gives a more natural and uniform appearance to the facial rejuvenation.

Generally, two vials of Sculptra are injected on the first treatment, then one vial one month later, and again one vial month after that. We then wait about two or three months to see how the results are. If additional filler is desired, it can always be added later.

Many patients also note that their skin texture is improved with Sculptra injections. We don’t have a great explanation for this, but it is a nice benefit.

From a cost-benefit perspective, because of the multiple areas treated, as well as the longer duration of response time, Sculptra clearly is the most cost-effective filler agent that I have at my disposal.

Chemical Peels

Chemical peels remove damaged outer layers of skin on the face to smooth texture, reduce scarring, and remove blemishes and pre-cancerous growths to produce healthy, glowing skin. Peel formulas and strengths are tailored to the needs of each individual patient. Chemical peels may be combined with surgical procedures such as facelifts for a younger look. They may be covered by insurance if they are performed for medical rather than cosmetic reasons.
