Say Goodbye to Droopy Breasts
- Posted on: Mar 1 2021
A mastopexy or breast lift is one of the most powerful procedures in my arsenal. Lifting the breasts up to a higher point on your chest wall restores youthful perkiness, and creates more length in your torso. This makes your abdomen appear longer and leaner. Furthermore, breasts that are in proportion to the rest of your body can make your waist appear smaller. But it is a procedure that is often misunderstood. Patients tend to be fearful of a breast lift because they’re worried about scars, when honestly, incision lines on the breast typically heal very well. They also think that they can solve the problem of their sagging breasts with a breast augmentation using a bigger implant. But it doesn’t take a physics major to understand that if you have breasts that sag, it is because the skin and tissues have weakened. And if you place a large implant into compromised tissue, the long term result is not going to make you happy. In order to truly say goodbye to droopy breasts, I have to decrease the size of your soft tissue envelope by removing skin with a breast lift.
Breast Lift or Breast Implant, How Do I Know?
A large portion of my practice is devoted to breast lift surgery and breast revision surgery. Women often need a breast lift after:
- Breast feeding
- Weight gain/loss
But age also exacts a toll on the skin and tissues everywhere in the body, including your breasts. So, how do you know if you are a better candidate for a breast lift or a breast implant? The best way is to come in and see me for a consultation. However, an effective at-home method is to look at your nipple position. If your nipples lie at or below the inframammary fold, which is the crease beneath your breast, I am going to have to excise that loose skin in order to lift your breasts back into position. If you have enough native breast tissue, I can restore a youthful shape, firmness and lift to your breasts with a breast lift alone. However, some women may still need more volume. For them, I perform a mastopexy augmentation, adding a breast implant or fat to their lift.
GalaFLEX is Like an Internal Bra of Support
The key to achieving the kind of long term result that I want for my breast lift patients is by creating strong enough internal support so that the skin and tissues stay perky. It used to be that the only way to do this was by placing internal sutures. However, this didn’t change the quality of the breast tissue, and the support that they provided was really modest at best. This is why I now use GalaFLEX® mesh in most of my breast lift or mastopexy augmentation procedures. This mesh comes in different sizes and shapes and is made from a bioabsorbable material. I precisely place it in order to create an internal bra of support. Over the next 9 months, your body will produce its own collagen that will weave in and out of the mesh. The mesh itself dissolves, and you are then left with new, strong tissue that will support your surgical result. It is a game changer.
Patient Satisfaction High
Once I explain all of the advantages of GalaFLEX® mesh, patients are incredibly receptive. Bottom line, you’ve come to me to solve a problem and the last thing that either of us wants is for that problem to come back. Both my breast lift and mastopexy augmentation procedures deliver really high patient satisfaction ratings. So, if you are tired of not wearing the you clothes that you want or dream about once again going braless, come in and speak with me about a breast lift. It really is one of those “WOW” procedures.
