Juvéderm® Ultra Plus

*Individual results may vary

What is Juvéderm®?

Juvéderm® is an injectable gel that gently reverses many of the signs of facial aging, such as wrinkles, crow’s feet, fine lines, thinning lips and loosening skin. By adding volume, it will sculpt the cheeks, “plump up” the lips, and restore a youthful oval shape to the face. It is made with hyaluronic acid, a natural substance found in the body that works with collagen and elastin to give volume and support to the skin. Because it is highly biocompatible and non-animal-based, no pre-treatment skin testing is needed. Juvéderm® is supplied in three formulas optimized for the depth of the area being treated. Results last about nine to twelve months*.

What are the benefits of JUVÉDERM®?

JUVÉDERM® is a safe, effective, non-surgical option for those that want to diminish the appearance of moderate to severe facial wrinkles. It is non-animal dermal filler of smooth consistency that, unlike most hyaluronic acid fillers, which have granular consistencies, allows for easy injection and instantly natural results*.

JUVÉDERM® Ultra allows for versatility in contouring and volumizing wrinkles and folds. JUVÉDERM® Ultra Plus is for correcting deeper and more severe wrinkles and folds. This allows for a completely personalized treatment tailored by your healthcare professionals to meet your needs. The results make you look naturally younger, refreshed and can last up to one year.* JUVÉDERM® is the first FDA-approved hyaluronic acid dermal filler proven safe and effective for persons of color.

How does Juvéderm® work?

Juvéderm reduces wrinkles and rejuvenates the face by adding volume beneath the skin. Volume increases when tiny particles of hyaluronic acid bind to water molecules in deeper layers of the skin. Hyaluronic acid naturally exists in the body so there is no risk of rejection or adverse reaction. With age, the body makes less of this substance. Dermal fillers like Juvéderm replace hyaluronic acid where it is needed most at the time of treatment.

Procedure & Recovery Time

The injection itself usually takes approximately 15 minutes.

Although anesthesia is not required, your doctor may use a topical or injectable anesthesia to numb the treatment area. JUVÉDERM® Injectable Gel will be injected under your skin to add volume or fill wrinkles and folds. After the injection, your doctor may gently massage the treated areas.

There is minimal recovery time with JUVÉDERM®. For the first 24 hours following treatment, you should avoid strenuous exercise, excessive sun or heat exposure, and consumption of alcoholic beverages in order to help minimize risk of temporary redness, swelling, and/or itching at the treatment sites.

Some temporary symptoms, such as redness, pain, firmness, swelling, and bumps may occur but usually clear up on their own within a week. Any swelling at the injection site can be minimized with an ice pack for a brief period. Your healthcare provider will tell you when makeup may be applied after your treatment.

What Results Can I Expect From Juvéderm® Treatment?

Most patients see an immediate improvement in the treatment areas and only need one treatment to achieve optimal results. Results may vary and touch-up treatments may be required to maintain results, but JUVÉDERM® can smooth lines and wrinkles for up to a year*.

How Many Juvéderm® Treatments Will I Need?

Juvéderm products are designed to achieve outstanding results in a single treatment session. The body naturally breaks down the hyaluronic acid in the skin over time. How long this takes may differ from one person to another. On average, we expect lip fillers to last 3 to 4 months and more structurally-designed fillers like Voluma to last up to 2 years. You won’t need multiple Juvéderm treatments to get results, but you will need periodic touch-ups to maintain more youthful facial contours.

How Do I Know Which Filler From The Juvéderm® Line Is Right For Me?

There are several Juvéderm products to choose from, including:

  • Juvéderm Ultra XC, commonly used on lips and mouth area, including “parentheses” smile lines.
  • Juvéderm Volbella XC, commonly used for lip plumping.
  • Juvéderm Vollure XC, for the lines around the nose and mouth.
  • Juvéderm Voluma XC, for cheek contouring.
  • Juvéderm XC, for wrinkles around the nose and mouth.

These are general uses of the various Juvéderm dermal fillers. You need not know exactly which filler you want before you schedule a consultation for treatment. Your experienced provider will determine the most effective product for you based on your skin, severity of wrinkles, and desired outcome.

What Is The Difference Between Botox® And Juvéderm®?

Juvéderm and Botox both work via injections into superficial tissue. Both approaches to cosmetic concerns work relatively quickly and can last for at least a few months. This is about where the similarities between the two types of injectables end.

Juvéderm products are dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid gel. The goal of dermal fillers is to smooth wrinkles by increasing volume in the deeper layers of tissue beneath creases. Volume increase in this way can also enhance the contours of the lips, cheeks, nose, and jawline.

Botox injections affect muscle movements. The active ingredient, botulinum toxin A, is a controlled substance that has been safely used at therapeutic dosages for many years. Cosmetically, much smaller dosage is needed to achieve excellent results. Botox does not increase the volume of the skin, it temporarily reduces muscle function so skin in the treated area can smooth out. The way that Botox works makes it ideal for dynamic wrinkles such as frown lines and forehead wrinkles.

Can Juvéderm® Ultra Plus Be Combined With Other Injectables?

Doctors and nurse injectors routinely use Juvéderm products either side-by-side or with other injectables. The most common combination is to pair Juvéderm with Botox for more advanced facial rejuvenation. Your provider can help you determine if multiple fillers or a combination of wrinkle-reducing injectables are right for you based on the concerns you have.
