Liposuction — One of Plastic Surgery’s Best

There are so many factors that make liposuction one of plastic surgery’s best. Not only is it a safe, incredibly versatile procedure, but when you see an experienced body contouring expert such as myself, the results are more akin to sculpture. The 4D VASER/PAL Hi-Definition Liposuction that I offer my Long Island patients allows me to literally sculpt your body contour into its ideal proportion. I can even do etching to further define certain muscle groups such as your abdominals, pecs, back or upper arms. So, how do you know if liposuction is the right choice for you?

Liposuction Consultation With so much excellent information available online these days, patients sometimes think that they don’t need an in-person consultation. This could not be further from the truth as the downside to the world wide web is that the information is homogenous while the key to an exemplary result is matching the right procedure or procedures to your unique:

  • Anatomy
  • Lifestyle
  • Goals

During your liposuction consultation, I will listen intently to what bothers you about your body. I will ask about your medical history, diet and exercise regime, and any prior aesthetic procedures that you may have had done. Then, I will perform a thorough physical exam to assess your:

  • Skin tone
  • Texture of your skin
  • Pockets of excess fat
  • Type of excess fat (visceral or “pinchable”)
  • Areas of loose, sagging skin (if any)

Together, we will come up with the best treatment plan to deliver on your goals, taking into consideration any lifestyle constraints such as time for recovery and/or budget.

Best Candidate for Liposuction
The best candidate for liposuction is any man or woman in good overall health who is bothered by excess pockets of fat that can be grabbed and pulled away from the body (“pinchable” fat). Fat that can not be pulled away from your body contour is called visceral fat. This is the type of fat that wraps around your organs, and can only be addressed through changes in diet and exercise.

Ideally, I like my body contouring patients to be within 10 lbs. of a maintainable goal weight. This is the best way to ensure a long-lasting, excellent result as one of the common misperceptions about liposuction is that it is a weight loss technique. It is not. Body contouring is about restoring or creating proper proportion. However, when your body is in harmony, you will appear longer, leaner and more vital.

Most Common Liposuction Areas for Women & Men
As mentioned, one of the biggest benefits of liposuction is its versatility. I can remove extra fat from almost anywhere on your body. The most common liposculpture areas for women are the:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Back
  • Upper arms
  • Thighs

The most common liposculpture areas for men are the:

  • Abdomen
  • Flanks
  • Chest

With high definition liposuction, I am even able to do etching to create definition such a set of 6 pack abs. Men tend to want this more than women, but it honestly varies by each patient’s individual needs and desires.

Fat = Liquid Gold
The other fantastic thing about liposuction is that the fat that is removed is liquid gold that I can use to replace lost volume in other areas of your face and/or body. In women, I typically perform fat grafting to the buttocks or breasts while for men, it’s the buttocks, pectoral area and deltoids.

The main downside to liposuction is that it does require time for recovery. However, I am a big advocate of post liposuction massage for its proven ability to reduce excess swelling, and get you into your bathing suit a lot faster. With any aesthetic procedure, it’s important to have realistic expectations when it comes to recovery. Your final, final liposculpture results may take 4-6 months. But you can expect very good results — the kind that you can take to the beach, in about 6-8 weeks in many cases.
