How did I become involved with Motiva implants? This is a great story!
Prior to any drug or medical device being permitted for use in the United States, it must first be used in an FDA clinical trial to ensure both the effectiveness and safety of the device/drug.
In 2017, I was contacted by Establishment Labs, manufacturer of Motiva breast implants to be one of 22 surgeons in the upcoming US FDA Motiva Clinical breast implant trial. Out of thousands of surgeons in the US who perform breast implants, I considered that to be quite an honor!
Not having any knowledge about this device, and having studied biomedical engineering, I decided to do a deep dive into the technology behind the Motiva breast implant.
What I discovered was incredible!
While there really were no substantial improvements in breast implant technology in many years, it was refreshing to find so many innovations in the Motiva implants. I predicted that not only would the Motiva breast implant be approved by the FDA, I also predicted a complete upset in the US breast implant market when these devices attained FDA approval.
I was so impressed with the Motiva implant, that I put a pair in my girlfriend and she is in the FDA study. She was so impressed with the Motiva implants that she eventually married me!
My predictions became reality. On September 26, 2024, while I was delivering a lecture on breast augmentation at an annual plastic surgery meeting when I received a text from Establishment labs that Motiva was finally approved!
Over the last fifteen months since FDA approval, Motiva is exploding in popularity in the US. My patients absolutely love them as do I.
