Breast Implant Shape and Profile Explained

You will often hear terms such as low profile, moderate profile, or high profile.
Profile does not refer to implant size.
It refers to how far the implant projects forward relative to its width.

Think of a low profile being a flatter, less full implant, and a high profile implant being fuller.

With Motiva implants, there are three profiles to choose from.
Mini.
Demi.
And Full.

Once breast width is determined, profile allows us to maintain breast width but increase volume by increasing projection, while respecting your anatomy.

This yields precision in implant sizing with the ability to offer different volume options.

Profile selection is especially useful when correcting asymmetry.
Implants of differing profiles with the same width but different projections can improve balance and symmetry.

This has become a powerful tool in my practice when correcting breast asymmetry.

One quick note – many women come in requesting high profile implants because they want upper fullness of their breasts. For any given implant base width, the extra volume in a high profile implant will offer more upper fullness by making the breast larger.

However, for any given implant volume, as you move from low to medium to full profile, the base width of the implant will become progressively less, and that will lead to less upper breast fullness. So, for a given implant volume, moving to a higher profile implant will result in less upper breast fullness.

This is why it is so important to consult with an experienced plastic surgeon who can best assess your breast tissues and anatomy, listen to your goals and desires, and formulate a surgical plan that will help you best meet those goals.

Let’s talk about options in implant shape.

There is round and teardrop.

Older teardrop implants had a fixed shape. If they rotated, the breast became distorted.

The newer Motiva Ergonomix implants are round implants that form a teardrop shape naturally when you are upright. And that shape does not change as the implants rotate!

There are now two great options depending upon how you want your breasts to look!

In the next video, we are going to explore a modern, safe approach to implant sizing to achieve the best possible result with the least risk for problems.
