No woman wants a lift.
They are concerned about the extra scars on their breasts, and the increased pain and downtime.
Here’s the reality:
A breast lift is required when excess skin and sagging are present.
Despite common myth, a larger implant will NOT eliminate the need for a lift.
Without a lift, the breast will have sagging breast tissue and the nipple will be on the lower part of the breast, giving a very unfavorable appearance to the breast.
There is some good news:
In most cases, the scars with a lift heal exceptionally well as thin, faint lines, They are visible, but often only upon close inspection.
Laser treatment can make the scars even less visible.
In my thirty-plus years of experience, about half of women are concerned about the scars prior to undergoing surgery, but rarely concerned after having undergone surgery because their breasts look so greatly improved!
Remember this: Scars fade over time.
The improvement in breast shape is substantial.
As for the concern regarding recovery, in my experience, I have not observed any difference in pain or post op recovery time when a lift is added to a breast augmentation. There are also no additional activity restrictions if a lift is also performed with a breast augmentation.
Let’s address the additional incisions required for a breast lift.
Almost always, there is an incision encircling the areola. The areola is the pigmented circle of skin surrounding the nipple.
In many cases, women requiring a lift also have excessively large areolae, and now benefit from the ability to reduce the size of the areolae while the lift is performed.
In the majority of cases, there is also a vertical scar beginning at the bottom of the areola and ending at the lower breast crease. This is the incision that concerns women the most. The reality is that this scar often heals amazingly well and is difficult to see.
The last incision, which is sometimes needed, is in the lower breast crease and usually covered by the breast when you are standing. It also heals exceptionally well.
So the good news is, if you need a lift:
The scars are usually very acceptable to the majority of patients
There is no additional discomfort or recovery time or limitations
Your breasts will look the absolute best that they possibly can!
