How to Decrease Your Cosmetic Surgery Risks

My number one priority whenever I am performing any aesthetic procedure such as my unique One Day Recovery Breast Augmentation is patient safety. Cosmetic surgery may be elective, but it is still surgery. And every surgery can have inherent risks for even the healthiest of patients. This is why my team and I have devoted countless hours to creating a comprehensive plan that will help decrease your cosmetic surgery risks. It surprises many patients to find out that the work begins long before either of us ever step foot in the operating room.

Certain Supplements May Increase Bleeding

Surgery can be stressful both emotionally and physically. No one really wants to be in the operating room even though he or she may really want the rejuvenating results. This is why my team and I do everything possible to insure that your surgery is smooth sailing. One of the major risks that we want to avoid is any unexpected bleeding issues. This is why you will be given a very thorough, multipage list of counter medications, vitamins and supplements that you will need to avoid before surgery. The list includes things such as:

  • Aspirin and NSAIDs like Advil & Tylenol
  • Vitamins E, C, K & B
  • Fish oils
  • Herbal supplements
  • Ginseng
  • Multi-vitamins

Patients are often amazed to learn that their healthful dietary supplement may adversely affect bleeding after surgery if it contains ginseng, for example.

Contraceptives & Blood Clots

It is also ideal for patients to limit their intake of certain foods like:

  • Sugar
  • Nightshade vegetables (eggplant, tomatoes, potatoes)
  • Caffeine
  • Alcohol

Furthermore, if you are on oral contraceptives, I recommend that you stop taking them right before surgery. You can resume afterwards, but birth control pills may increase your risk of forming a blood clot which is something that we definitely want to avoid.

Safety First

Obviously, before stopping any prescription medication, it is important to check first with your gynecologist or other sub specialty doctor that it is safe for you to do so. Our goal with all of these recommendations is to get you in the best shape possible for undergoing surgery. In addition to a detailed pre-op handbook that will walk you through what to avoid, it also contains a day by day post-op guide. I have been in practice for many years, and one thing that I know for sure is that what you put into your body after surgery can have a huge impact on your recovery. It is definitely a time to embrace healthful eating habits in order to give your body the building blocks it needs to heal. With our pre and post-op guide, you will know exactly what to expect as well as the best choices to make in order to insure a risk free recovery and an exemplary result.
