Is There Such as Thing as a Quick-Fix in Plastic Surgery?

As a Board-Certified Plastic Surgeon, I take a measured, comprehensive approach with every patient whether you are coming in to see me for a surgical procedure or a non-surgical procedure. Having said that, I also respect the fact that, for many of us, time is our most precious commodity. Trying to balance work, family and looking rejuvenated can be difficult. But is there really such as thing as a quick-fix when it comes to plastic surgery? Yes, but only in the right patient.

Proper Patient Selection = Excellent Result

There are a number of factors that help guarantee an excellent aesthetic result. The skill, training and expertise of your plastic surgeon is paramount. A huge component of this, however, is not just surgical skill or a fantastic artistic eye. It’s the ability to assess your anatomy and needs against your desired outcome. Oftentimes, a patient will come into my office wanting a non-surgical body contouring procedure, for example, on the abdomen, but will present with folds of excess, loose skin. I have to be honest and tell the patient that Coolsculpting will not address the loose skin. In fact, it might even make it look worse.

So, yes, there are effective quick-fix procedures such as:

These procedures can do wonders with little to no downtime, but only in patients who do not have a moderate to severe amount of loose skin and/or excess fat.

Non-Surgical Body Contouring: Coolsculpting & CoolTone™

There is nothing like the prospect of getting in a bathing suit to make patients pick up the phone to schedule a non-surgical body contouring procedure. And if you don’t have a lot of excess skin, Coosculpting is a fantastic way to get rid of stubborn pockets of fat almost anywhere on the body including the:

  • abdomen
  • hips
  • inner/outer thighs
  • buttocks
  • upper arms
  • under the chin
  • knees

I will often combine Coolsculpting with CoolTone™, a procedure that uses electromagnetic stimulation to induce focused, controlled muscle contractions in the treatment area. To give you some perspective, one 30 minute CoolTone™ procedure on the abdomen is the equivalent of doing 25,000 sit-ups. This a procedure that will deliver those “cut” abs that you’ve always dreamed about, but can never seem to achieve in the gym.

Non-Surgical Facial Rejuvenation

While we all notice sagging skin around the mouth and fines lines and wrinkles, one of the biggest agers on the face is skin texture. Issues such as:

  • brown spots
  • redness
  • broken blood vessels
  • enlarged pores
  • “crepey” uneven, skin texture

These can all make your face look older than your years. Thankfully, there are quite a few quick-fix, non-surgical facial rejuvenation options. Laser skin resurfacing with lasers such the BBL, Halo and Joule X can treat surface texture issues and/or deeper lines and wrinkles by promoting the body to produce more collagen and elastin. Depending on the chosen laser, you can even achieve a “lift” to the skin although this will also require a bit more downtime.

Morpheus 8, which combines microneedling with radiofrequency (RF) energy, is another great way to rejuvenate the skin without a huge commitment in terms of recovery. And then there is always the classic: injectables. Botox and fillers are so popular for a reason. They are a fast, effective way to take years off your face without downtime.

So, if you are wanting a pick-me-up, but don’t have a lot of time for recovery, schedule a consultation to come in and speak with me about whether or not a quick-fix procedure may be right for you.
